Burning and freezing at the same time...
This is a 6"x9" mixed media illustration using gouache paint, ink, Copic markers, Arteza fineliner pens, and gel pens on 100 lb. Bristol paper.
This piece was originally part of my "Celestial Bodies" Inktober series in which I painted 31 astronomical objects in 31 days. This particular illustration was inspired by Mercury, the smallest planet in our solar system and the closest planet to our Sun. Due to its close proximity, Mercury’s tidal-locked to the Sun in a 3:2 spin-orbit resonance, meaning Mercury only rotates on its axis three times for every two trips it makes around the Sun. Since the planet has virtually no atmosphere, temperatures on its surface can swing wildly between 800 degrees Fahrenheit (430 degrees Celsius) and 290 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 180 degrees Celsius).
All my illustrations are signed and shipped in a protective plastic sleeve.
